John Edward Peterson

John Edward Peterson, 23, Emporia, Kansas, died as the result of injuries received in a motorcycle accident July 30, 2011 south of Emporia on K-99.


John Edward Peterson was born at Emporia, on November 23, 1987, the son of Edward Matthew (II) and Janet Rice Peterson.


He is survived by his parents, Janet and Ed Peterson, Emporia; sister, Hanna Peterson, Kansas City, Kansas; grandparents, Betty Rice, Emporia, and Ed and Pat Peterson, Osage City, Kansas; as well as many loved aunts, uncles, and cousins.


John worked, since spring, for Auspision as a caregiver and team leader. He lived most of his life in Emporia, but at 19 went to California, where he lived for over a year. He grew up attending the Twelfth Avenue Baptist Church, Emporia.


John continues to help others through tissue donation with Mid-West Organ and Tissue Bank, and hair through Locks of Love.


His passions were his motorcycle and his dog, Payne.


Cremation is planned.


Memorial services will be held on Thursday, August 4, 2011 at 10:00 AM at Twelfth Avenue Baptist Church, conducted by Pastor Al Areheart. A graveside service will be held at Woodlawn Cemetery, west of Pomona, Kansas at 3:00 PM the same day.


The family requests no flowers. A memorial has been established with the Kansas Youth Empowerment Academy, which provides mentorship for youth with disabilities.
