John Robert Gavin, 78, Emporia, Kansas, died Sunday, April 10, 2011 at Holiday Resort Care Center, Emporia.
John was born July 29, 1932 at Melvern, Kansas, the son of Robert McLaun and Sadie Mae (Rosine) Gavin. He married Patricia Marie Nigh at Emporia, Kansas on March 18, 1955. She survives of the home.
Other surviving family members are: son, Brad Gavin, Emporia; Daughter, Launi Selo, Seattle, Washington; sisters, Mary Gavin Cowan, Kansas City, Missouri and Gloria Gavin MacIntosh, Haysville, Kansas; grandchildren, Heather Buckle, Heidi Elliott, and Lindee Shay; great-grandchildren, Lilli Shay, Bohdi Shay, Gavin Fester, Jacob Elliott, Sarah Elliott, and Noah Elliott.
He is preceded in death by a brother, Delbert “Bud” Gavin, and his parents
Mr. Gavin was employed by the City of Emporia for 33 years, and was Waste Water Treatment Supervisor. Gavin Road in Emporia is named after him.
Funeral services will be at the Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home Thursday morning, April 14, 2011, at 10:00. The service will be conducted by Mr. John Basel. Interment will be in the Key West Cemetery, east of Lebo, Kansas.
