John Alan Lostutter, Emporia, Kansas, died at Stormont-Vail Healthcare, Topeka, Saturday, December 20, 2014, at the age of 67.
A memorial service will be held at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, Emporia, on Monday, December 29, 2014 at 10:30 A.M. The service will be conducted by Pastor Bob Colerick, First Christian Church of Emporia. Casual dress is requested. Cremation has occurred. Inurnment will be at a separate time in Memorial Lawn Cemetery, Emporia.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour before the service.
John Alan Lostutter was born in Emporia on March 30, 1947, the son of Robert Kemper and Clydean Bette (Blount). He married Patricia Hasting, they later divorced, and she died earlier. He married Janet Willard May 17, 1980 in Las Vegas, Nevada. She survives of the home.
He is survived by his wife; daughter, Shannon Lostutter, and her fiancé, Jerry Simmons, Kansas City, Missouri; brother, Robert Kemper Lostutter, Jr. Chicago, Illinois; sister, Judy Lostutter Hargraves, Leawood, Kansas; and mother-in-law, Elizabeth Willard, Emporia; as well as one niece, two nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.
For several years, he ran Lostutter Liquor Store with his father. Following that, he worked for 14 years at the Emporia Walmart store, first in the hardware department, then later as the greeter in the Tire & Lube Express. He had retired 5 years ago.
John Alan was a 1965 graduate of Emporia High School, and had attended Emporia State University and Butler County Community College (El Dorado, Kansas). He was a member of the Plainsmen Drum and Bugle Corps, playing baritone horn until he aged-out at 21. He continued his interest in drum and bugle corps for the rest of his life. He enjoyed playing games on the computer, metal detecting, motorcycles, Sci-fi movies and shows, and going to casinos.
A memorial has been established with Emporia Friends of the Zoo. Contributions may be sent in care of the funeral home.
