John L. Mears

_{John L Mears, Emporia, died July 2nd at KU Medical Center. He was 61. John  was born July 21, 1956 in El Dorado, KS to Rolland L Mears and Connie L Walls, both deceased. He graduated from Madison High School then served 4 years in the United States army. He married Brenda K Nuessen October 27, 1979 in Olpe. She survives. John and Brenda were parents to 5 daughters who were the apples of their dad's eyes. Family was very important to John and fortunately for him he was welcomed into the large Nuessen family where he spearheaded many get togethers complete with yard games and cookouts or camping. John and Brenda spent many years two-stepping their way around the state and Oklahoma as dancing was an activity they both enjoyed. After retiring from 25 years at Dolly Madison Bakery in 2011 he became readily available to watch his grandchildren after school and loved coming up with cool activities to keep them entertained. John is survived by his wife, Brenda of the home; daughters Melissa Mears and Samantha Mears (Travis Miller) of Topeka; Molly (Chris) Gronniger of Maize; Amanda (Michael) McMurphy and Heather Mears (Doug Cunningham) of Emporia; grandchildren Alyssa and William McMurphy; Chloe, Lexi, Keighly, Mylee and Andin Giesken-Mears all of Emporia; Liliana Munoz, Broken Arrow Oklahoma and Aaliyah Moore of Topeka; brother Thom Mears of Fergus Falls, Minnesota; father in- law Jerry Nuessen of Olpe, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and half-brother Faron Scheikofsky. John was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.}

_{Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, July 7, 2018 at 10:30 A.M. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Emporia. The Mass will be celebrated by Father Pete O’Sullivan. Burial will follow in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery.}
