John H. Senn

March 14, 1924 — October 23, 2014

John H. Senn, 90, passed away October 23, 2014, after a short stay at Holiday Resort, Emporia, Kansas.

He was born March 14, 1924 in Emporia, the only child of Henry Senn and Tracy Mayes Senn.

After graduating from Emporia High School, class of 1942, John served in the U.S. Army, 142nd AAA Gun Battalion at Battle of the Bulge, Rhineland and central European campaigns during WWII. He married Florence Hufferd on January 24, 1943, and was employed by the Santa Fe Railroad for 43 years before his retirement in 1984. He also served as the union representative for railway clerks.

John was a member of VFW Post #1980, and retired railroaders. John was a loyal husband and father with a great love of the outdoors, hunting, and fishing. He enjoyed woodcrafting during his retirement years.

He is survived by: his children, Nancy Senn, Anita O’Dell, Lanna Shepherd, and Keith Senn; daughter-in-law, Teresa Senn; son-in-law, Leonard O’Dell; grandchildren, Aaron Miles and wife Erika, Katrina Graen and husband Troy, Russell Fine, Colter O’Dell, A.J. O’Dell and wife Bethanie, Brady Shepherd, Sunny Ward and husband Robert, Hunter Senn, and Terra Senn; and great-grandchildren, Emma and Joseph Graen, Paige Miles, and Corey Ward.

John was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and great-grandson, Jacob Graen.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 3:00 P.M. on Sunday, October 26, 2014 at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, Emporia. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 A.M., Monday, October 27, 2014 at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, Olpe, Kansas. The service will be conducted by Pastor Lee Hoskins. Military Honors will be presented by Lowry-Funston Post #1980, V.F.W. and Ball-McColm Post #5, American Legion.
