Joni Givens, Neosho Rapids, Kansas, passed away at Stormont-Vail Regional Medical Center, Topeka, on Thursday, August 31, 2017, at the age of 55.
Funeral services will be at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, Emporia, on Tuesday, September 5, 2017 at 10:00 A.M. The service will be conducted by Pastor Rick Grossenbacher, Calvary Baptist Church, Emporia. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery, Neosho Rapids, Kansas.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday evening from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM.
Joni Barber was born in Emporia, Kansas, on February 6, 1962, the daughter of Leland and Karen (Johnston) Barber. She married Jeff Givens in Miami, Oklahoma on May 1, 1989. He survives.
Joni is survived by her husband; son, Tanner Barber and his wife, Jenny, Neosho Rapids; her father, Leland Barber, Americus, KS; sisters, Jackie Gibb (Mike), Cottonwood Falls, KS, and Jamie Yingst (Cal) Americus, KS; and a grandson, Rhett Barber.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Karen.
Joni was the kitchen manager for the Neosho Rapids Elementary School, working there the last 18 years. She was very involved in school activities, supporting the after hours events at the school.
Memorials have been designated for Emporia Friends of the Zoo and the South Lyon County Education Fund. Contributions may be sent through the funeral home, PO Box #175, Emporia, Kansas 66801.
