Jose Refugio Alaniz

Jose Refugio Alaniz, 69 of Emporia, Kansas died Saturday, September 1, 2018 at Newman Regional Health in Emporia.

Jose was born December 28, 1948 in Michoacán, Mexico the son of Miguel Alaniz and Esperanza Garcia Vega. He worked for Better Life Technology. Jose was a member of the St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Emporia and very active within the church, serving as a Eucharist Minister and helping with the church choir.

On December 9, 1972 Jose married Maria Silvia Cornejo in Comenja, Michoacán, Mexico. She survives of the home. Other survivors include his son Jose Alejandro Alaniz Cornejo of Emporia, daughters Efigenia Alaniz-Nonoal and Maria Virginia Alaniz-Avila both of Emporia, sister Adelina Morales-Alaniz of Emporia, grandchildren Marilu Avila, Linda Avila, Juan Nonoal, Luis Nonoal, Guadalupe Alaniz, Omar Alaniz, Arlene Alaniz, Alize Angel Alaniz, great-grandchild Azaira Mae Avila. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Antonio Alaniz, son Octavio Alaniz and grandson Jesus Avila.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 A.M. Thursday, September 6, 2018 at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Emporia. Father Nick Blaha will be the Celebrant. Interment will be in the Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Emporia. The Rosary will be recited at 7:15 P.M. Wednesday, September 5, 2018 at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home in Emporia.

A memorial fund is to be designated later. Contributions may be made to the Jose Alaniz Memorial Fund and sent in care of Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home.
