Jose Angel Montes

Jose Angel Montes, 21, of Emporia died on Sunday, July 1, 2018 in Emporia.

Angel was born on April 17, 1997 in El Paso, Texas the son of Jose Montes and Gloria Sanchez.

Surviving family members include:  mother, Gloria Sanchez of Emporia; father Jose Montes of Dodge City, Kansas; grandparents, Gloria Aguilar of Emporia, Charles and Karen Davis of Cottonwood Falls, Kansas; uncle, Manuel (Michelle) Sanchez and was loved by many adopted aunts, uncles and cousins of Abate District 12.

He is preceded in death by his step-father Paul Davis.

Angel was a member of St. Catherine Catholic Church, Emporia.  He graduated from Emporia High School in 2015, where he took pride in participating with the Viva Voce’ singing group and attended one year of college at Emporia State University where he was involved in orchestra, chorale and the a cappella group.  Angel really enjoyed helping out every year with the Abate of Kansas District #12 toy drive.  He is remembered by everyone for his infectious smile and carefree spirit.  Angel had such an open and giving heart.  He was always willing to lend a helping hand whenever needed.  Throughout his life he never hesitated to take other people flowers or to sing to them so they knew that they were loved.  His time on earth was short, but his impact will live on forever.  Angel would say to always remember to Own The Day.

Cremation is planned.  Mass of Christian burial will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, July 6, 2018 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Emporia.  Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, July 5, 2018 at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, Emporia.  Memorial contributions to Abate District #12 toy drive can be sent in care of the funeral home.
