Josephine Velma Vogts

Josephine Velma Vogts, Madison, Kansas, died on August 19, 2013 at Holiday Resort Care Center, Emporia, at the age of 90.

Josephine Velma Hinrichs was born October 8, 1922, in Olpe, Kansas, the daughter of Martin and Lena (Pohl) Hinrichs. She married Albert Vogts on June 3, 1945 at Zion Lutheran Church, southwest of Olpe. Josephine and Albert enjoyed 68 years of happily married life together until his death June 18, 2013.

She grew up attending schools in the Olpe area. Josephine was a member of the former Zion Lutheran Church, and later, Messiah Lutheran Church in Emporia. She farmed with her husband their entire married life.

She is survived by three sons, Dennis (Shirley) Vogts, Mesa, Arizona, Mike (Shelley) Vogts, Madison, Kansas, and Keith (Shirley) Vogts, Manhattan, Kansas; two daughters, Phillis (Norman) Thomas, Emporia, and Beverly (Don) Miller, Madison; one brother, Wilbert (Louise) Hinrichs, Emporia; eight grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren, and nineteen step-great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Vogts was preceded in death by her husband; two brothers, Martin and Warren Hinrichs; and one sister, Ella Vogts.

Funeral services will be held Friday, August 23, 2013 at 10:00 A.M. at Messiah Lutheran Church, Emporia, conducted by Pastor Norbert Tegtmeier of the church. Burial will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery, southwest of Olpe.

The family will receive friends at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home Thursday evening, August 22, 2013, from 7:00 PM until 8:00 PM.
