Joy D. Hutcherson Beavers

Joy D. Hutcherson Beavers of Emporia died on Thursday, November 22, 2018 at her home.  She was 88.

Joy was born on September 14, 1930 in Emporia, Kansas the sixth child of Charles A. and Frances L. Allen Hutcherson.

Surviving family members include: daughter, Loretta Phoenix of Emporia; son, Raymond Phoenix of Alhambra, California; granddaughters, Heather D. Phoenix Bordeaux and husband Anthony Bordeaux of Emporia, and V. Renae Phoenix of Topeka; great-grandchildren, Shayla Phoenix, Shelby Phoenix, and Semira Joy Bordeaux; with a great-great-grandson Kyrie; sisters, Sarah L. Chambers of Emporia, and Linda Rose Hutcherson of Topeka.

She is preceded in death by her parents Charles and Frances Hutcherson, three sisters Charlene Harrison, Aletha Smith and Leanna Tucker, and four brothers Charles A. Hutcherson Jr., Allen F. Hutcherson, Thomas N. Hutcherson, and Robert L. Hutcherson.

She worked at many jobs in her lifetime, woman of many talents.  Skilled Dolly Madison factory Bakery worker, waitress at the Holiday Inn, also for Prairie Dunes County Club. Degree for Interior Decorator.  She moved to Altadena, California and became a store owner of a Boutique named “Déjà vu Da Joy” and became a store trainer in 1986 for Sears above and beyond expectations for her training methods.  She was offered a promotion for corporate store trainer nationwide for Sears employees.  However, she decided not to take due to extensive traveling etc.  Next position she became the Fine jewelry coordinator for Sears with a very successful career until she retired in 2006.  She was a member of St. James Baptist Church.

Cremation is planned with a memorial service 1:00 p.m., Saturday, December 8, 2018 at St. James Missionary Baptist Church, Emporia.
