Joyce Ann Wempe, 50, of Emporia, Kansas died on October 29, 2012 at Newman Regional Health in Emporia.
Joyce was born on April 23, 1962 in Albuquerque, New Mexico, the daughter of Oll and Ann Major Wilson. She married Conrad L. Wempe on May 23, 1980 in Eureka, Kansas. He survives of the home.
Surviving family members include: son, Brett J. Wempe of Iola, Kansas; grandchildren, Brett Michael Wempe of Iola and Hannah Wempe of Emporia; mother, Ann Rice of El Dorado, Kansas; stepfather, Lloyd Rice, Jr. of Severy, Kansas; brothers, Rex David Wilson of Eureka, Kansas, David Wilson of Turpin, Oklahoma, and Allen Lynn Wilson of Emporia.
She is preceded in death by her father, and a brother, Michael Keith Wilson.
For many years, Joyce worked in the office at Bluestem Farm and Ranch Supply, Emporia. She enjoyed playing bingo, and learning to play the piano. She was a member of Emporia Main Street and took care of one of the gardens downtown. She loved motorcycles and drag racing.
Cremation is planned, with a memorial service at 2:00 P.M. Friday, November 2, 2012 at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, Emporia. Memorial contributions to Emporia Express Special Olympics may be sent in care of the funeral home.
