Juanita G. Gunkle, 84, Emporia, Kansas, died Tuesday, July 15, 2014 at Emporia Presbyterian Manor.
  
  
  Juanita E. Garriott was born at Canton, Oklahoma on July 20, 1929, the daughter of Charles M. and Helen R. (Boring) Garriott. She married Glen Dale Gunkle in Emporia on November 30, 1950. He died May 24, 1996.
  
  
  Juanita is survived by a daughter, Nancy (Russell) Lawson; sons, Alan (Susan) Gunkle and Eric (Robin) Gunkle, all of Emporia; stepbrother, Melford McGuire, Sugar Hill, Georgia; stepsister, Roberta Willard, McPherson, Kansas; grandchildren, Brian Lawson, Josh Lawson, Carly Gunkle, Kelsey Gunkle, Brendon Gunkle, Cara Werts Blevins, and Briana Bonomo; great-grandchildren, Kacen Lawson, Sophie Blevins, Nicolas Bonomo, and Trevin and Shaylee Ginter.
  
  
  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a brother, Charles Q. Garriott; and a sister, Vivian Fowler.
  
  
  She was the office manager at the former College of Emporia, the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, Coast to Coast Transportation, and the Flint Hills Girl Scout Council, and retired six years ago.
  
  
  Juanita was a member of the First United Methodist Church, church circle, the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, Republican Women, American Legion Auxiliary, and was a volunteer at Newman Regional Health. She also served as a Girl Scout Leader, and was a reading buddy at the fifth grade building.
  
  
  Funeral services will be Friday, July 18, 2014 at 10:00 A.M. at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, Emporia, conducted by Pastor Michelle Byerly, Associate Pastor, First United Methodist Church. Interment will be in Fowler Cemetery, east of Emporia.
  
  
  A memorial has been established with the National Parkinson Disease Foundation, Heartland Division, with contributions sent in care of the funeral home.
