Judith K. Boehme

Judith K. “Judy” Yearout-Boehme, 84, Emporia, passed away Friday, November 10, 2023 at her home.

Judith Kay Jones was born in Emporia, Kansas on November 19, 1938, the daughter of Dave and Margaret Lillian (Lewis) Jones.  She was raised in Emporia and attended Emporia Schools, graduating from Emporia High School. While in high school, she was the only member of the Emporia City Band.

She married Arthur Yearout and the moved to Goodland, Kansas and raised three children. She first worked at the hospital there as a Registered Nurse, then she and a friend were able to form the Sherman County Health Department. Later, she and six others were able to start the WIC program for the State of Kansas. At the time of her retirement she covered a seven county area in western Kansas.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Dave and Margaret Jones, two infant brothers, another brother, Thomas Jones, the father of her children, Arthur Yearout, daughter-in-law, Dian Yearout, and grandson, Daniel Mitchell. She later married Robert Boehme, and they moved to Emporia to be caregivers to her mother. Robert “Bob” has also preceded her in death.

Her survivors are her daughter; Cynthia (Martin) Lewis, sons; Douglas (Rosann) Yearout and Christophr Yearout, brother; Charlie Jones, 5 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

She was a member of the Trend Study Club, American Legion Auxiliary, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary. Her “Lunch Bunch”, a group of “girls” who graduated from Emporia High School in 1956. She cherished those friendships from those groups.

It was Judy’s wish to be cremated.  A private family service will be held at Evergreen Cemetery, south o Emporia.  Memorial contributions may be given to the Emporia Friends of the Zoo, and can be sent in care of Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, PO Box #175, Emporia, Kansas 66801, which is assisting with arrangements.
