Judith Mae Hurley of Emporia passed away on Friday, November 8, 2024, at her home.  She was 83.

Judy was born on March 10, 1941, in Topeka, Kansas. She was the youngest of 4 children. She was adored and cherished by her parents, June and Preston Sells, her brother Jim, and sisters Lorita and Sally. She was her mother’s sweet child and her father’s constant shadow.

In 1947 they moved to Reading, Kansas where she spent the remainder of her childhood.   After graduating from Reading High School and Cosmetology School in Topeka, she married Larry McDonald of Emporia, Kansas.  They had four children, Danny, Tuesday, Lori and Sonny. They later divorced.

In 1977 she met and later married the love of her life, Jim Hurley of Emporia, Kansas, and soon after they moved to Basehor, Kansas.  Judy and Jim enjoyed traveling the lower 48 and Canada in their motorhome, and often spent summers in Texas.

She is survived by her daughters, Lori (Kevin) Pope, and Sunny Rae Ohl; grandchildren, Nathan McDonald, Dustin McDonald, Hillary Butera, Ashley Rene Fortson and Adam Mounkes; great-grandchildren, Ariella McDonald, Ariella McDonald, Aleyah McDonald, Kamya McDonald, Danny McDonald, Gunner McDonald, Maxx McDonald, and Lukas Cope; great-great-grandson, Xaiden Jeffrey Cope; brother, Jim Sells of Emporia; and sister, Sally Burd.

She is preceded in death by her husband Jim Hurley, son Danny McDonald, daughter Tuesday Mounkes, parents June and Preston Sells, and sister Lorita Pyle.

Visitation will take place from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Friday, November 15, 2024, at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, Emporia. Memorial contributions to Hand in Hand Hospice can be sent in care of Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, P.O. Box 175, Emporia, Kansas 66801.
