Katherine Shown, 90, Emporia, passed away at Newman Regional Health, Emporia, on Tuesday, September 7, 2015.
Hazel Katherine Shown was born at Red Rocks, Oklahoma on March 26, 1925, the daughter of Horace and Stella (Fairchild) Maxwell. She married Warren Robert “Bob” Shown May 5, 1946 in Emporia. He died June 30, 2004.
Surviving family members include her sons, Warren Shown, Americus, Kansas, Mike and David Shown of Emporia, Kansas, and James Shown, Gardner, Kansas; daughters, Jeanne Heins, Olpe, Kansas and Karren Madden, Kansas City, Missouri; sisters, Frances Lewis, Cheverly, Maryland, Bobby Garrison, Kansas City, Missouri, and Donna Rorabaugh, Overland Park, Kansas; ten grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and one Great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Blanche Maxwell, Edna MeClelland, and Grace Maxwell; and brother, Bill Maxwell.
Mrs. Shown was a homemaker, mother, telephone operator for Southwestern Bell, and worked at the Lyon County Registrar of Deeds Office.
Funeral services will be Thursday, September 10, 2015 at 10:00 A.M. at the Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, Emporia. The service will be conducted by Pastor Mylon Dice, a great-grandson, of the First Christian Church, Cameron, Missouri. Interment will follow in Memorial Lawn Cemetery, Emporia.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday evening, September 9, 2015 from 7:00 to 8:00 P.M.
