Kenneth Earl Kelso, 70, of Emporia died on Tuesday, August 15, 2017 at Newman Regional Health, Emporia.
Ken was born on October 2, 1946 in Emmetsburg, Iowa the son of Ora and Goldie Philamelee Kelso. He married Maureen Carney on November 24, 1966 and was married for 17 years but later divorced. Ken later married Rosemary Margaret Flander on October 26, 1984 at the Ranch House Club in Emporia. She died on May 16, 2012 in Emporia.
Surviving family members include: Daughters, Robin Farmer (Fiancé Arthur Bailey) of Emporia, Kansas, Anjanette “Angie” Kelso (Fiancé Paul Gudbaur) of Lawrence, Kansas, and Jodi Lynn Woydziak (Jason) of Ardmore, Oklahoma; Son, David Kelso of Sioux City, Iowa; his Lady Vicki Rude of the home; four step-children, fourteen grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren and several nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, second wife Rose Kelso, brothers Earnest Kelso and Lomoin Kelso, sister Norma Everhard.
Ken was an over the road truck driver for many years retiring from Dolly Madison in 2011 after 22 years. Ken served in the United States Army. He is a member of Lowry-Funston Post #1980 Veterans of Foreign Wars, Ball-McColm Post #5 American Legion, Arab Shriners, Arab Lil’ Chops Unit and an associate member of other units. Fraternal Order of Eagles #2587, and served the Lyon County Senior Patrol. He could be seen many evenings making friends laugh at either the V.F.W or the American Legion.
Cremation is planned. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday evening, August 20, 2017 at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, Emporia. Memorial Service will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, August 21, 2017 at the funeral home with military honors by Ball-McColm Post #5 American Legion. Please do not send flowers; memorial contributions are suggested instead to the Shriner’s Hospital for Children, with contributions sent in care of the funeral home.
