Kenneth Wayne Lorenz of Emporia, died on Monday, September 16, 2024, at his home. He was 67.
Kenny was born on August 16, 1957, in Kansas City, Missouri, the son of Gwendolyn Kerr Lorenz and the late Earl F. Lorenz
He is survived by his mother, Gwendolyn Lorenz of Emporia; brothers, David Lorenz and Thomas (Carol) Lorenz both of Emporia; sister-in-law, Mary Lorenz of Saint Charles, Missouri; grandchildren, Aiden and Boston Voorhees, cousins, niece and nephews and his many friends.
He is preceded in death by his father Earl Lorenz, and his grandparents Carl N and Lillian Kerr.
Kenny grew up in rural Americus, KS and attended Americus High School for 2 years and graduated from Northern Heights High School in 1975. He attended Emporia State University for 1 year and studied mechanics at Flint Hills Technical School.
Kenny was a Diesel Mechanic for over 46 years, most recently at Master Mechanics, Inc and Hoyt Truck Center. Kenny never saw a Detroit Diesel he couldn’t diagnose, take apart and rebuild. He was considered a master mechanic working on big rigs, agricultural equipment, automotive and small engines. If he couldn’t fix it, no one could. Kenny enjoyed fishing, telling stories and spending time with his many friends.
Cremation is planned with a Memorial Service at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, September 26, 2024, at the Emporia Presbyterian Church in Emporia with burial following at Americus Cemetery, Americus. Memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society or Hand in Hand Hospice can be sent in care of Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, P.O. Box 175, Emporia, Kansas 66801.
