Kristi Lynn Karr-Morgan, 51, of rural Emporia, Kansas, passed away on August 21, 2011 at her home.
Kristi was born on July 13, 1960 in Emporia, Kansas, the daughter of Robert Ira and Elaine Le (Hartenbower) Karr. She married Darryl Morgan on May 30, 2009 in Emporia, Kansas. He survives at the home.
Other survivors include: sons, Matthew Watt of Finland, and Patrick Watt of Emporia; daughter, Sarah Lockyear of Topeka, Kansas; parents, Robert and Elaine Karr of Emporia; and brother, Jon Karr of Emporia.
She is preceded in death by her grandparents, Orren and Kathleen Karr; grandparents, Leone and Jerry Giles Hartenbower; and an uncle, Steven Karr.
Kristi graduated from Emporia State University with a B.A. in English in 1988. She began teaching for the Emporia Unified School District #253 at Emporia High School, and later the Emporia Learning Center. From 1996 to 2011, she taught English and the Credit Recovery Program at Northern Heights High School in Allen, Kansas. In 2001 she received the Joseph B. Whitehead Educator of Distinction Award. From 1996 to 2008 she was the cross country coach at Northern Heights High School. In that time she coached the girls cross country team to three state championships and the boys team to one state championship. In 2000 she was named the Kansas Coaches Association Boys Cross Country Coach of the Year.
The funeral service will be held 10:30 A.M. Saturday, August 27, 2011 at Emporia Presbyterian Church West Campus in Emporia, please dress casually. The service will be conducted by Pastor Brenda Ulrich of the Americus Presbyterian Church. Burial will be conducted at Rosean Cemetery north of Emporia. The visitation will be held Friday, August 26, 2011 from 6:30 P.M. to 7:30 P.M., at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home in Emporia.
The family requests instead of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Americus Presbyterian Church or the Track and Cross Country teams at Northern Heights High School. Contributions may be sent in care of the funeral home.
