Larry Wayne Lutes was born in Pratt Kansas on March 25, 1944 to Howard Osborn Lutes and Elizabeth Irene (Hattabaugh) Lutes. He was the second of 6 children. He died at the Clearwater Nursing and Rehabilitation center in Clearwater KS on November 11, 2021 at the age of 77.
Larry graduated from Byers High School in Byers, KS in 1962, and from Friends Bible College with an Associate degree in 1964. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts in 1968 and a Master of Music in 1973 from what is now Emporia State University. Larry and Pam (Williams) Baxter were married July 22, 1964 and later divorced. Larry and Karen Thompson were married on December 21, 1986.
Larry grew up on a dairy farm in Byers, KS. After college he taught music, then became a maintenance worker specializing in electrical, refrigeration, and mechanical installations until his retirement.
Larry is survived by his two children Jeff (Shelly) Lutes of Emporia and Amy Lee of Pickerington OH; five grandchildren: Drake, Natasha, and Abigail Lutes of Emporia KS, and Ethan and Aaron Lee of Pickerington OH; brother Loren Lutes of Ozawkie KS, and sisters Pauleen Hancock of Emporia KS, Evelyn (Steve) Eubank of Silver Lake KS, and Margaret (David) McIntire of Wichita KS.
He is preceded in death by his parents, a brother Harold who died in infancy, and wife Karen.
Cremation is planned with a service at a later date.
