It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Larry Shurtz, a devoted husband, loving father, cherished Papa and a true cowboy at heart.
Larry Shurtz of Emporia, died on Wednesday, July10, 2024, at Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka. He was 83.
Larry was born August 21, 1941, in Arkansas City, Kansas, the son of Merle and Hazel Murphy Shurtz. He married Sharon L. Hestand on February 4, 1967, in Arkansas City, Kansas.
He is survived by his wife Sharon. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Wayne Shurtz and sisters Sheryl Fultz and Merelene Smith.
Larry served in the United States Army and then returned to his job at Rodeo Meats where he worked for 22 years until the plant closed. Because he loved working with horses, training them then became a full job. He was a cowboy through and through. His greatest love was his family.
Though he may have ridden off into the sunset, his good-natured spirit and love will forever remain in the hearts of those who love him. His love will continue to inspire and guide us, just as he did in life.
