Laura Mae McAntee, 91 of Emporia, Kansas died Friday, November 2, 2018 at the Emporia Presbyterian Manor.
Laura Mae was born July 1, 1927 in Emporia the daughter of Joseph Fred and Justina Ann (Brinkman) Kuhlmann. She began her teaching career in a one room school house in Tonaway, Kansas, Laura Mae then went to teach at Olpe High School and spent the last 13 years of her career teaching accounting at Emporia State University retiring in 1979. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and was very active in the church as a member of the Altar Society, financial committees and in many other capacities. Laura Mae was a member of Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority, served as a board member of the Lyon County Historical Society, and as a trustee for the ESU Foundation.
On June 23, 1948 Laura Mae married Edward Eugene McAntee at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Emporia. He died June 8, 1989 at his home in Emporia. She is survived by a brother Joseph Kuhlmann, Jr. of Dallas, Texas, and several nieces and nephews. Laura Mae was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a brother Donald Kuhlmann.
Cremation is planned. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 A.M. Friday November 9, 2018 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Father Brandon Farrar will be the Celebrant. There will be a private inurnment at the Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Reading, Kansas. The Rosary will be recited 7:00 P.M. Thursday, November 8, 2018 at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home in Emporia.
Memorial contributions may be made to the ESU Foundation Edward and Laura Mae McAntee Scholarship or Hand-In-Hand Hospice and sent in care of Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home.
