Laverne H. “Vern” Miltz, former Emporia and Bella Vista, Arkansas resident, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2010 at the Wamego City Hospital. He was 88.
Vern Miltz, the son of Walter & Mollie (Bernhardt) Miltz, was born Feb. 23, 1922 in Lost Springs, Kansas. He married Irene A. Navrat in Leavenworth, Kansas on April 22, 1946.
He is survived by: two sons, Keith and wife Pam Miltz of Wamego, and Steve and wife Marlene Miltz of Americus; two sisters, Jane Hahn of Topeka and Verda Fleming of Herington; three grandchildren, Eric and wife Sherry Miltz of Topeka, Matthew and wife Michelle of Topeka, and Jocelin and husband Chuck Asbury of Wamego; seven great-grandchildren, Luke Miltz, Emma Miltz, Marissa Miltz, Maci Miltz, Wyatt Asbury, Ava Asbury, and Trace Asbury.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife who died Oct. 6, 2001, one brother, and one sister.
Vern was a salesman and part-owner of Navrat’s Office Products in Emporia, and also owned Miltz Business Forms. He has been retired for 10 years. He was a member of the Messiah Lutheran Church and the Bella Vista Lutheran Church. He was an Army Veteran of WW II, a member of Ball-McColm Post #5 American Legion, Lowry-Funston Post #1980, and the Emporia Eagles Club.
Funeral services will be 10 A.M. Saturday, November 27, 2010 at Messiah Lutheran Church. Pastor Bert Tegtmeier will officiate. Military Honors will be by Ball-McColm Post #5 American Legion and Lowry Funston Post #1980, Veterans of Foreign Wars. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery.
