Leland Dean “Red” Rodgers, 84, Olpe, Kansas, died Friday, June 27, 2014 at Emporia Presbyterian Manor.
  
  
  
  Red was born at Beeler, Kansas on June 18, 1930, the son of Lowell J. and Beaulah (Brocher) Rodgers. He married Carol Johnson in Lindsborg, Kansas December 11, 1953, they later divorced, and she survives. He married Evelyn Scheve on June 22, 1984 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Emporia. She died August 31, 2010.
  
  
  
  Surviving family members include: his daughter, Teresa Rodgers, Lawrence, Kansas; sons, Gary Rodgers, Glendale, Arizona, and Kevin Rodgers, Emporia; stepsons, Stephen Scheve, Houston, Texas, and Francis Scheve, Emporia; stepdaughter, Kathy Braman, Buffalo, Kansas; brother, Gaylen Rodgers, McPherson, Kansas; sister, Carol Navrat, Canton, Kansas; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
  
  
  
  He was preceded in death by his parents, second wife, and a sister, Twilla Spiller.
  
  
  
  Red was a member of Saint Joseph Catholic Church, Olpe, member and Third Degree Knight of the Knights of Columbus, as well as Ball-McColm Post #5, American Legion and Lowry-Funston Post #1980, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Bluestem Swingers Square Dance Club. He had served on the Olpe City Council for eight years and as Mayor four years.
  
  
  
  He served four years in the U.S. Air Force, and six months in the Army National Guard. After the service he was employed in McPherson, Kansas as a police officer for a year. He moved to Emporia, where he worked for Reeble’s South Grocery Store, then Panhandle Eastern Pipeline Company (Olpe) 27 years, and Emporia State University seven years.
  
  
  
  Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Saint Joseph Catholic Church, Olpe, on Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at 10:00 A.M. with Father John Cordes, Celebrant. Interment will be in Saint Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Olpe, with military graveside honors by Ball-McColm Post #5, American Legion, and Lowry-Funston Post #1980, Veterans of Foreign Wars.
  
  
  
  The Rosary will be recited at 7:00 P.M. Tuesday evening, July 1, 2014 at the church.
  
  
  
  The memorial is with Saint Joseph Catholic Church, Olpe, with contributions sent in care of the funeral home.
