Leo Bernard Burenheide, 92 of Emporia, Kansas died Thursday, January 19, 2017 at the Holiday Resort Care Center in Emporia.
Leo was born November 10, 1924 in rural Olpe, Kansas the son of Bernard “Ben” and Mary Frances (Hagemann) Burenheide. He spent his life farming. Leo was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Sertoma, Kansas Pork Producers, served on the board for Rural Water District #2, was a leader for the Chamness 4-H Club. He loved playing cards and working on his farm. Leo served in the US Army during WWII.
Leo married Eleanor Louthan on May 28, 1962 in Emporia, Kansas. She died March 11, 2007 in Emporia. He is survived by: son Keith Bartley and wife Linda of Emporia, KS daughter Nancy Kossler and husband Mark of Topeka, KS, grandchildren Tyrell Tenpenny, Mark Bartley, Michelle Bartley Wilson, Angela Bartley and great-granddaughter Hazelynn Wilson. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, siblings Tony Burenheide, Frank Burenheide, Margaret Korte, Alfred Burenheide, Edward Burenheide, Dorothy Arndt, Raymond Burenheide, and Clara Baker.
Funeral Services will be 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Father Brandon Farrar of Sacred Heart Catholic Church will be officiating. Interment will be 3:00 P.M. Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at Abilene Cemetery in Abilene, Kansas. Deacon Terry Chapot of St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Abilene will be officiating. Military Honors will be provided by the US Army. The family will receive friends from 7:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home.
