Leon Ramirez, Sr., 88, of Emporia, Kansas died January 27, 2011 at the Flint Hills Care Center in Emporia, Kansas. Funeral Services will be held in Monterrey, Mexico.
Leon Ramirez was born July 9, 1922, the son of Pedro and Maria Ramirez, in Piedras Negras, Coahuila, Mexico. He married Graciela Aguirre in Monterrey, Mexico on April 29, 1959. She died in Emporia, Kansas on May 25, 1991. They moved to Emporia in 1970. Leon worked as a saw operator on the processing side of Iowa Beef Processors in Emporia, Kansas for 15 years. He has been retired for 18 years.
Mr. Ramirez is survived by: four sons, Leon Ramirez, Jr. of Emporia, Kansas, Miguel Ramirez of Topeka, Kansas, Abel Ramirez of Hudson, New York, and Josue Ramirez of Dallas, Texas; three daughters, M. Patricia Martinez of Emporia, Kansas, Maria C. Ramirez of Mobile, Alabama, and Graciela Duncan of Wichita, Kansas; a sister, Guadalupe Ramirez of Monterrey, Mexico; and ten grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; an infant son, Jose Luis Ramirez; and a brother, Abel Ramirez.
Mr. Ramirez will lie in state at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home until he is moved to Monterrey, Mexico for services and burial. Memorial contributions may be made to the Game Room at the Emporia Recreation Center and sent in care of the funeral home.
