Leona Marie Fessler, 87, of Emporia, Kansas died Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at Newman Regional Health in Emporia.

Leona Marie Heiser was born October 5, 1924 in Ramona, Kansas the daughter of John and Mary (Klieber) Heiser. Leona married Lawrence Henry Fessler at Strassburg Baptist Church in Marion, Kansas on October 3, 1947. He died June 6, 2008 in Emporia.

She is survived by: sons, Wayne Fessler of Emporia, and Richard Fessler of Houston, Texas; brothers, John Heiser of Herrington, Kansas and Charles Heiser of Ramona; sister, Neva Heiderbrecht of Lincoln, Nebraska; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a brother, Harry Heiser; and a sister, Katheryn Schimpf.

Leona worked as a bookkeeper for Thomas Transfer and a few other companies in Emporia. She was a member of First Friends Church in Emporia, and was very active in the church, belonging to several Bible study groups. She was a volunteer with the Newman Hospital Pink Ladies in Emporia, and was also an avid quilter, belonging to several quilting guilds.

A memorial Service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, February 11, 2012 at First Friends Church, Emporia. Pastor Charity Sandstrom of the church will be officiating. Cremation has taken place, and inurnment will be in the Lewis Cemetery in Romana, Kansas.
