Longtime Emporia pastor, Leonard Wagner, 89, Topeka, Kansas and formerly of Emporia, passed away in Topeka on Monday, April 14, 2025.
Leonard was born in Emporia, Kansas on March 13, 1936, the son of Artimus Leonard and Anna Frances (Nevitt) Wagner. He married Elvira Spealman in Emporia on September 21, 1957. She passed away on March 5, 2013. Surviving Leonard are sons; Gregory (Kimberle) Wagner, Leawood, Kansas, and Rodney (Brenda) Wagner, Topeka, Kansas, daughters; Rhonda (Chris) Parsons, Topeka, Kansas and Janu (Bill) Cress, Greenwood, Missouri, Eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife, and their daughter, Diana Lynn, who died May 5, 1960.
Rev. Wagner pastored in the Church of God of Prophecy for 63 years serving congregations in Nebraska, Missouri, and Kansas. The longest being the Emporia Church of God of Prophecy. Though he had retired at the age of 86, he never truly ceased his ministry. He also was a real estate agent with Ek Realty in Emporia for many years. He held an Honorary Doctorate in Divinity from the International Seminary.
Funeral services will be held in the chapel of the Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home on Friday, April 18, 2025 at 1:30 P.M. Burial will follow in the Maplewood Cemetery, Emporia. The family will receive friends at the funeral home an hour before the service.
