LEONARD L. WERNER, 96, Emporia, died Monday, March 21, 2016 at Holiday Resort Care Center, Emporia.
Leonard was born January 11, 1920 at Kirwin, Kansas, the son of Otto F. and Charlotte (Nostrand) Werner. He married Wanita Riddle March 22, 1952 in Emporia. She died June 7, 1999.
Surviving family members include his daughter, Christy Werner-Elliott, Council Grove, Kansas; grandchildren, Chad Elliott and Aaron Werner; great-grandchildren, Austin L. Elliott, Dustin M. Elliott, Bailey Meade, Calvin J. Werner, Caroline N. Navarro, and Luciano Navarro.
He was preceded in death by his wife, son, Tom, and granddaughter, Jennifer.
Leonard worked for Emporia Electric (formerly Radig Electric) and after retiring in 1988 he started as Maintenance Supervisor for Rural Water District #4 in Lyon County.
He was a Navy veteran of World War II, a member of Ball-McColm Post #5, American Legion and Lowry-Funston Post #1980, Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a member and Past Master of Emporia Masonic Lodge #12, A.F. & A.M., Emporia Commandary #8, Arab Shrine in Topeka, The Mini-T Shrine Unit of Emporia, Miriam Chapter #14, Order of Eastern Star, Emporia Sertoma Club, and York Rite Bodies of Free Masonry.
Leonard enjoyed gardening, collecting old machinery, engines, hand tools, such as old wrenches, and music.
Funeral services will be Friday, March 25, at 2:00 P.M. at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, Emporia. The service will be conducted by Pastor David Webb, First Christian Church, Emporia. Interment will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery with masonic services by Emporia Masonic Lodge #12, A.F.& A.M. and military honors by Lowry-Funston Post #1980, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Ball-McColm Post #5, American Legion.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday evening from 7:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.
