Leslie Francis Nuessen, 68, Emporia, Kansas, died at Stormont-Vail Hospital, Topeka, Kansas on Tuesday, December 21, 2010.
  
  
  Leslie Nuessen was born at Olpe, Kansas on August 12, 1942, the son of John Joseph and Mildred Irene (Morrow) Nuessen. He married Linda Rogers in England, and they later divorced.
  
  
  Surviving family members include: daughter, Julie Wilson, Emporia, Kansas; son, Marc Nuessen, Wichita, Kansas; brothers, Gilbert Nuessen, Burlington, Washington, and Jerry Nuessen, Olpe, Kansas; sisters, Lorene Haag and Marjorie Hagemann, both of Olpe, Kansas, Rosella Hight, Bella Vista, Arkansas, and Sharon Melton, Prague, Oklahoma; and six grandchildren.
  
  
  He was preceded in death by a son, Andrew John Nuessen.
  
  
  Mr. Nuessen served in the U.S. Air Force from 1961 to 1965. He worked for the Emporia Police Department, Emporia, Kansas for 13 years, serving as Chief of Police 7 years. He later worked for Wolf Creek Nuclear Generating Station in security, and later as a control board operator. He helped start the Nuclear Power Plant Operators Course at Flint Hills Technical College, and later taught Building Trades. He currently worked at Sutherland’s Lumber in Emporia.
  
  
  He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Emporia, Kansas, the Knights of Columbus, Ball-McColm Post #5, American Legion, Sertoma Club of Emporia, the Fraternal Order of Chiefs of Police, and the Kansas Peace Officers Association. He was a graduate of Friends University, Wichita, Kansas, an avid woodworker, and enjoyed hunting and fishing.
  
  
  Mass of Christian Burial will be at the Saint Joseph Catholic Church, Olpe, Kansas on Monday, December 27, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. Father Anthony Williams, Celebrant. Interment will be in the Saint Joseph Cemetery.
  
  
  The Rosary will be recited at the church in Olpe Sunday evening, December 26, 2010 at 7:00 P.M. The family will receive friends following the Rosary.
  
  
  A memorial has been established, and will be designated later, with contributions sent in care of the funeral home.
