Leslie Gerald "Les" Potter, passed away peacefully on April 1, 2026, in Emporia, Kansas, at the age of 79. Born on July 11, 1946, the first baby born to a war bride, in Emporia, Kansas, Les lived a life deeply connected to his community and devoted to his family, work, and passions.
Les was the beloved husband of Linda Potter and a devoted father to his two daughters, Angela Dailey (Cory), Topeka and Andrea Harrison (Tom) Wichita. He was a proud grandfather to Skylar (Becca) Dailey, Reagan Dailey, Collin Harrison (Marisa), Eli Harrison, and Aiden Harrison. His family brought him immense joy throughout his life. Les is also survived by his brother Daniel Potter and sister Janice Davisson. He was predeceased by his parents, Leslie D. Potter and Ginette Potter, as well as his grandson Lucas Dailey.
A proud veteran of the United States Navy, Les served honorably as a CEW3 electrician during the Vietnam War from June 1966 to June 1972 as a Navy Seabee. His service exemplified his dedication to duty and commitment to excellence.
After his military service, Les applied his skills as an electrician throughout his career. He worked with his father owning Potter Electric. Known for his strong work ethic and expertise in his field, he worked tirelessly up until recently. Beyond his professional life, Les found fulfillment in officiating high school basketball games and high school and junior college football games. His involvement in sports reflected not only his love for athletics but also his desire to give back to the community.
Les had a deep passion for sports that extended beyond officiating. He was an avid supporter of Kansas State University basketball and football teams and cheered enthusiastically for the Kansas City Chiefs and Royals. His love for travel allowed him to take his grandchildren to Wildcat football away games – not forgetting to add some museums and fun while away. Les was also the family’s handyman – always helping someone in his extended family. When not enjoying sports or spending time with family, Les and Linda enjoyed going out dancing.
Les's legacy is one of dedication—to his family, friends, work, country, and community. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew him best. He also wouldn’t want all of us making a fuss over him. He has always said that all he wanted was to be buried in a pine box. His son-in-law Tom has made that wish come true. He also happens to be a life long Kansas State Wildcat fan – following the football team all over the country.
The visitation will be held on Sunday, April 12, from 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. with a Celebration of Life on Monday, April 13 at 2:00 P.M. at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home with Military Honors by Ball-McColm Post #5, American Legion and Lowry-Funston Post #1980, Veterans of Foreign Wars.
