Lester Eugene “Gene” Jacob, formerly of Emporia died on Monday, February 19, 2018 at his home in Golden, Missouri. He was 62.
Gene was born on December 10, 1955 in Emporia, Kansas the son of Lester and Dolores Hartenbower Jacob. He married Kay Lynn Dickson on April 23, 1977 in Junction City, Kansas. She survives.
Surviving family members include: wife, Kay Jacob of the home; sons, Nick Jacob and wife Ann, and Dustin Jacob and wife Dell both of Emporia; daughter, Amanda Herman and husband Doug of Emporia; grandchildren, Abigail and Nolan Jacob, Reagan and Taylor Herrman, Avery and Ella Jacob; brother, Lance Jacob of Burlington, Kansas; sister, Lena Jacob of Little Rock, Arkansas.
He is preceded in death by his parents, and brother Larry Dean Jacob.
Gene worked for Modine for 30 years in Emporia and Joplin before going to Ducommun in Berryville, Arkansas.
Those who knew Gene know how much he loved the lake. He took pride in showing friends and family the joys of the water. Whether he was teaching someone a new water sport, fishing with Kay, or cruising into the marina to buy the grandkids ice cream, he was smiling. He lived a life well lived and will always be remembered as carefree, selfless and loving.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, February 23, 2018 at the First United Methodist Church, Emporia. Visitation will be Thursday night from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, Emporia. Cremation is planned with a private burial at a later date at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Neosho Rapids, Kansas. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Emporia Soccer Academy or East Mockingbird Dock Association, two organizations that Gene cared deeply about.
