Lillian Pearl Hawthorne, 97, died Sunday, September 23, 2012 at Newman Regional Health, Emporia, Kansas.
Lillian Pearl Johnson was born at Dunlap, Kansas on November 11, 1914, the daughter of William Myrle and Viola Mable (Riggs) Johnson. She married Hubert Hawthorne on December 25, 1942 at Lubbock, Texas. He died December 26, 1979.
Surviving family members include daughters, Jana (Al) Atchison, Topeka, Kansas, and Nada (Jim) Schroeder, Salina, Kansas; son, Jimmy (Cathy) Hawthorne, Bushong, Kansas; and grandchildren, Shonna Dexter, and Ashley, Michael and Corrie Hawthorne.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Judy Ann Hawthorne; her husband; parents; and two brothers.
Mrs. Hawthorne was a 1934 graduate of Dunlap High School, and attended Kansas State Normal School (Emporia State University) at Emporia, graduating with a two year teaching certificate in 1936. She taught in a rural elementary school for over seven years.
Before moving to Emporia, she had lived on the family farms at Chalk, Council Grove, and Dunlap.
She was a member of the Council Grove/Dunlap United Methodist Church at Council Grove, and Miriam Chapter #14, Order of the Eastern Star, Emporia.
Memorial Services will be held Thursday, September 27, 2012, at 2:00 P.M. at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, Emporia. The service will be conducted by Pastor Larry Buss, Council Grove United Methodist Church, Council Grove, Kansas. Cremation is planned, with private inurnment at a later date at Agnes City Cemetery in northwest Lyon County.
A visitation will be held from 7:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Wednesday evening, September 26, 2012 at the funeral home.
