Linda Sue Nixon, 69, rural Neosho Rapids, Kansas, passed away at her home on Wednesday, January 10, 2018.

Linda Sue Krueger was born February 9, 1948 at Emporia, Kansas, the daughter of Michael and Delorise (Troyer) Krueger. She married Theodore “Ted” Schmidt at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Emporia on June 18, 1966. He passed away July 24, 2004. On February 14, 1992 she married Delano “Nick” Nixon at their home in Emporia. He survives.

Other surviving family members include son; Jeffrey Schmidt, Hartford, KS, daughter; Rebecca Schmidt Korgol (Ted), Bonner Springs, KS, Step-daughters; Tammy Johnson (Greg), Simpsonville, SC, and Jennifer Nixon, Houston, TX, Sisters-In-Law; Rosalie Fowler, Emporia and Berniece Fowler, Shawnee, KS, Grandchildren; Mike Herrick (Michelle), Chelsea Schmidt, Morgan Schmidt, Kristin Korgol Sneath (Brandon), Kyle Korgol (Bobbi), Braden Korgol, Justin Korgol, Clint Drake (Ashley), and Marc Nixon, and numerous great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, step-daughter; Rebecca Nixon Gosser, and brothers; Richard “Gene” Fowler and James “Jimmy” Fowler.

Linda was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Emporia Quilt Guild (Past President).

She was a hairstylist, owning The Hair Benders 1972 to 1994. She was also the stylist for Holiday Resort Care Center for several years. From 1993 to 2014 she was a toll collector for the Kansas Turnpike.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, January 16, 2018 at 10:00 A.M. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Mass will be celebrated by Father Phillip Smith, Toronto, Canada. Interment will follow in the Sacred Heart Cemetery.

The Rosary will be recited at the Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home Monday evening at 7:00 P.M.

A memorial has been established to the church, with contributions sent in care of the funeral home, PO Box #175, Emporia, KS 66801
