Linda L. Schlup, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully Thursday, September 18, 2025 surrounded by her family, holding her grandson, Ryan's, hand.
A celebration of Linda's life will be held this Monday, September 29 at 11:00 a.m., at Maplewood Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Emporia, KS.
   Born on March 24, 1946, to Louise (Sue) Buffington and Earl Buffington in Emporia, Kansas, Linda's passions included music, taking rides in her husband, Rick's, show cars, and spending time with her family. She was a gifted singer who often shared her talents alongside her beloved
   
   husband, adding beautiful harmony or leading a song. Her voice, and laugh, was a constant presence at family gatherings and events, bringing joy to everyone who heard it. She also found joy in gardening, baking, and animals.
  
   But Linda's greatest joy was her family. She married Richard M. Schlup Jr. on December 4, 1965. Their love story spanned six decades, a testament to their unwavering commitment and deep affection. Together, she and Rick built a beautiful family that prioritized spending time
   
   together and strong traditions - traditions that will carry on for generations. It only seems fitting that after 60 years of being inseparable, her heart followed his just weeks after his passing.
  
   Linda was mother to Eric and Kimberly, and Linda's guidance shaped her children's lives. Her opinion was always sought, and her approval treasured, a testament to her children's respect and love for her. As a grandmother and great-grandmother, she created a special and unique
   
   bond with each of her grandchildren, a quiet and constant presence that spoke volumes of her love.
  
   Linda is survived by her children, Eric Schlup and his wife, Michele, and Kimberly Mattox and her husband, Randy. Grandchildren include Erika Schlup Maley and her husband, Jacob, Ryan Schlup, Kara Castigliano and step-grandson William Mattox and wife Brittany. She is also
   
   survived by her great-grandchildren Mason, Cooper and Khloe Maley and Briley Mattox. Additionally, she is survived by her brothers, Steven and Larry Buffington, along with many other cherished family members and friends.
  
A celebration of Linda's life will be held Monday, September 29 at 11:00 a.m. on the east side of Maplewood Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Emporia, KS. Following the graveside service, all who wish to continue sharing memories are welcome to join the family at local restaurant, 627 Event Space Bar & Grill, located at 627 Commercial St, Emporia, KS.
