Linda Marie Sharples

Linda Marie Sharples, 67, of Americus, Kansas passed away peacefully in her home on Tuesday, January 9, 2024.

Linda Marie Viles was born in Emporia, Kansas on April 18, 1956, the daughter of Claude Vernon and Geraldine Mary (High) Viles.  She married Chris Sharples in Miami, Oklahoma on November 4, 1979.  He passed away August 2, 2021.  Surviving family members include her son; Justin (Amanda) Sharples, Auburn, Kansas, daughter; Melissa Sharples, Americus, Kansas, brother; Lewis Viles, Denver, Colorado, sisters; Laura Baysinger and Louise Hinrichs, both of Emporia, Kansas, and grandchildren; Liam and Riley Sharples.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Chris, her parents, and a brother; Lloyd Viles.

Linda was a caring soul who would put others before herself.  Whether she was adopting the neighborhood stray animals, being her Son’s Cub Scout Den mother, or being a caregiver, she was always quick to step-up.  She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Until her recent illness, Linda worked as a Cashier in the Hornet Express at Emporia State University.  It was a job she enjoyed immensely because she had the opportunity to interact with the students.

Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, January 16, 2024 at 1:00 P.M. at the Robert-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, Emporia. Burial will follow at the Memorial Lawn Cemetery, Emporia.  The family will receive friends Monday at the funeral home from 6:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M.
