Loie Mae West, 97, died on August 9, 2016 at Brookdale Emporia.
Loie was born on October 15, 1918 on the family farm near Admire, the fifth of seven children born to Van and Itis Blackwell Spade. She married Willard W. West on October 17, 1936 in Council Grove, Kansas and they resided in Allen for five years before moving to Emporia.
Surviving family members include: son, Gary L. West and wife Nancy of Enumclaw, Washington; sister, Vada Harmon of Ordway, Colorado; five grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, son Gaylord E. West, Granddaughter Becky West, and two brothers, and three sisters.
For 23 years Loie worked at Montgomery Ward’s and was the Department Manager of 5 departments and a sales clerk before she retired on November 1, 1982. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Emporia, Social Order of Beauceant for many years, serving one term as president of the Emporia chapter. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, United Methodist Women, and the American Legion Auxiliary.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Monday, August 15, 2016 at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home with burial following at the Memorial Lawn Cemetery, Emporia. Memorial contributions to Hand in Hand Hospice in care of the funeral home.
