Lois Fern Starkey, 86, of Emporia, Kansas, and former resident of Latham, Waverly, and Burden, Kansas, died on November 2, 2010 at the Emporia Presbyterian Manor in Emporia.
  
  
  Lois Fern was born of April 15, 1924 in Butler County, Kansas, the daughter of Samuel Charles and Ora King Wright. She married Thomas M. Starkey, Jr. on May 26, 1944 in Wichita, Kansas. He survives of the home.
  
  
  Other survivors include: son, Thomas K. Starkey and wife Debra of Wellington, Kansas; daughter, Sharon L. Linhart and husband Bill of Emporia, Kansas; brother, Sam Wright and his wife Betsy of Douglass, Kansas; and sister, Delores Metz of Winfield, Kansas. Grandchildren: Stefanie Linhart Sparks and husband Kevin of Olathe, Kansas; Heather Linhart Zang and husband Frank of Boise, Idaho; Shannon Starkey Shilling and husband Travis of Manhattan, Kansas; and Thomas Brandon Starkey of Manhattan, Kansas. Great Grandchildren: Nathan and Natalie Sparks of Olathe, Kansas; and Alex and Ethan Zang of Boise, Idaho.
  
  
  She is preceded in death by her parents, her step-father Bert S. Wright, a sister Margaret Louise Wright, her sister-in-law Betty Starkey Burden and her brother-in-law Kenneth Metz.
  
  
  Lois moved to the Waverly Kansas area in 1959 where she worked as a teller at the First National Bank of Waverly. The family then moved to Burden in 1968 where she worked in the accounting department at the Winfield State Hospital until she retired in June of 1987. While her children were home, she was a homemaker, excelling in baking, quilt making, and as a seamstress. In June of 2006 Lois and her husband Tom moved to Emporia. Lois was a member of the Burden United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women at the church, and the Rook Club in the Burden Community, Homemakers Club in Waverly, and the Quilting Guild in Burden.
  
  
  The memorial service will be at 10:00 AM Saturday, November 6, 2010 at the Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, Emporia, with Mr. Ken Hanson of Emporia conducting the service. Inurnment will be at a later date at the Latham Cemetery in Latham, Kansas. Memorial contribution to the Burden United Methodist Church or the Emporia Presbyterian Manor can be sent in care of the funeral home.
