Lonna K Thomas, 65, of Emporia, Kansas, died Wednesday, August 24, 2016 at the Holiday Resort Care Center in Emporia, after battling a multitude of illnesses for 10 years.
Lonna was born April 17, 1951 in Emporia, the daughter of Charles A. and Edith (Schorer) Greig. Lonna was a graduate of Emporia High School and the Emporia School of Beauty. She worked at Dee’s Beauty Salon in Allen, KS after graduation and then went to work in production at Dolly Madison Bakery. Lonna retired from J.C. Penney’s as the catalog department manager in 2000. She was on a bowling team for many years, and was active in the P.T.A. at Logan Avenue Elementary School while her children attended there. Lonna enjoyed attending a monthly gathering of J.C. Penney retirees and her dance group made up of a very special group of friends.
Lonna married Warren W. Thomas on July 30, 1976 in Emporia. He died October 17, 2012 in Emporia. She is survived by her parents Charles and Edith Greig of Emporia; sons, Justin C. Thomas of Emporia and Floyd H. Thomas and wife Tammy of Emporia; daughter, Amy I. Jackson and husband Ryder of Reading, KS; brothers, Charles Greig and wife Janice of Emporia and Richard Greig and wife Marcia of Overland Park, KS; sister, Shirley Richardson and husband Jim of Emporia; grandchildren, Taylor C. Thomas and Logan “Crash” Thomas; and granddog, Duke Jackson. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Davena Campbell and Jerilyn Fish.
Cremation is planned. Memorial services will be 2:00 P.M. Saturday, August 27, 2016 at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home. Pastor Rob Claussen of the First Baptist Church in Emporia will officiate. Inurnment will be in Evergreen Cemetery south of Emporia.
