LoraDelle “Dixie” Viola Thomas, a lifetime resident of Emporia, Kansas, went to be with her Lord and Savior on August 5, 2015; she was 83 years old. She passed away at Holiday Resort, where she had lived for the last few months of her life.
Dixie was born July 19, 1932, the youngest daughter of Calvin Ephriam Cowen and NoraBelle Viola VanCleave Cowen. She attended Emporia Public Schools. On September 20, 1949, she married the love of her life, LeRoy Raymond Edward Thomas in the Chase County Courthouse.
Dixie loved children and animals and enjoyed cooking. Her home was always open to family and friends. A member of the original Foursquare Church, Dixie enjoyed playing the piano for children's Sunday school, and her accordion at church revivals.
Dixie is survived by husband, LeRoy, of the home; a son, Scott Thomas; a daughter, Vanda Thomas Stephens; and one grandson, Thomas Charles Stephens, all of Emporia; one sister, Rosezetta “Julie” Lavon Giese of Spencer, Indiana; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Her brother, Calvin David Cowen of Arkansas City, Kansas, followed her in death on August 5th as well.
Family will meet visitors on Friday, August 7, 2015 from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m., at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, Emporia. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., on Saturday, August 8, 2015 at the First Christian Church, in Emporia, officiated by Rev. Leonard Wagner of the Church of God of Prophecy. Graveside services will follow at Line Pleasant View Cemetery, southwest of Olpe, Kansas.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Holiday Resort Memorial Pathway Fund, and sent in care of the funeral home.
