Loren Dean Merry, Emporia, Kansas, died at Holiday Resort Care Center on Saturday, February 26, 2011 at the age of 88.
  
  
  
  Mr. Merry was born in Emporia, Kansas on May 25, 1922, the son of Dean E. and Vera (Hensley) Merry. He married Novella E. Lodle at Cottonwood Falls, Kansas on June 20, 1942. She survives of the home.
  
  
  
  Other surviving family members include: sons, Darrell L. Merry of Olpe, Kansas, Gene L. Merry, Burlington, Kansas, and Rodger G. Merry of Gardner, Kansas; daughters, Dianne M. Heins, Emporia, Kansas and Janice C. Barrons, Manhattan, Kansas; one brother, Eldon Wayne Merry, Arkansas; eleven grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; and three step great-great-grandchildren.
  
  
  
  He was preceded in death by two sons, Ronald D. Merry (died July 14, 1958) and Robert L. Merry (died August 14, 1951); his parents; and a brother, Kenneth.
  
  
  
  Mr. Merry was a lifetime resident of Emporia and was a conductor for the Atchison, Topeka, and Santa Fe Railroad for 30 years. He was a member of the First Christian Church, Emporia, and the United Transportation Union.
  
  
  
  Funeral Services will be held at the First Christian Church, Emporia, Kansas on Wednesday, March 2, 2011, at 10:30 a.m., conducted by Rev. Bob Colerick. Interment will be in the Memorial Lawn Cemetery, Emporia, Kansas.
  
  
  
  The family will receive friends at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home Tuesday evening, March 1, 2011, from 7:00 until 8:00 p.m.
  
  
  
  Memorials have been established for the First Christian Church or the Emporia Friends of the Zoo, with gifts sent in care of the funeral home.
