Loretta Alene Rice, 84, of Emporia died Thursday June 2, 2016 at the Holiday Resort Care Center.
Loretta Alene Spiker, the daughter of William H. and Grace Chase Spiker was born September 4, 1931 in Sabetha. She married Richard L. Rice on March 28, 1954 in Horton. He preceded her in death on January 22, 2007, in Emporia.
Surviving Members of the family include, two daughters, Patricia A. Ebner of Laytonsville, MD and Karen S. (Pat) Flood of Emporia; a sister, Dorothy Smith of Topeka; six grandchildren, Heather Harich of Westminster, MD, Courtney Ebner of Laytonsville, MD, Wes Ebner of Annapolis, MD, Richard Lee âRJâ Rice, Jr. of Ft. Collins, CO, Cameron Rice of Boise, ID and Caitlin Flood of Manhattan; eight great-grandchildren also survive.
Loretta was preceded in death by her husband, Richard; a son Richard Lee Rice; and two brothers, Robert Spiker, and William H. Spiker, Jr.
Loretta and Richard moved to Emporia in 1971 once Richard retired from the U.S. Marine Corps. She and Richard bowled in many leagues over the years.
Loretta had been a manager of a Peter Pan Ice Cream store, and a clerk at J.C. Penneys. Her last job was an office assistant for Emporia Anesthesia Associates until she retired in 1996.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women and the Newman Hospital Auxiliary.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, June 7, 2016 at the First United Methodist Church. Pastor Jeannie Jensen will officiate. Burial will follow at Memorial Lawn Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 1:00 P.M. until service time at the church on Tuesday.
