Louise Darby Boles, Emporia, Kansas, died at her home March 31, 2011. She was 85.

Louise Darby was born at Manhattan, Kansas on December 26, 1925, the daughter of Earl Gilbert and Henrietta (Jones) Darby. She married Robert Joe Boles at Manhattan, Kansas on June 12, 1949. He died November 27, 2007 in Emporia.

Surviving family members include: her daughter, Christine Martin, Lenexa, Kansas; son, Walter Earl Boles, Manly, N.S.W. Australia; sister, Anne Ketterman, Coffeyville, Kansas; and three grandchildren, Owen Robert Martin, Claire Marie Martin, and Alyssa Savannah Harris Boles.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one son, Richard Joe Boles; and a sister, Antoinette Nelson.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Emporia, as well as the United Methodist Women, Emporia Area Retired Teachers, Omicron Nu, Phi Kappa Phi (charter member at Emporia State University), Phi Lambda Theta, and Beta Phi Mu.

Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 9, 2011, at the C.D. Long Chapel of First United Methodist Church, Emporia, Kansas. Services will be conducted by Jayne Duncan of the church. Inurnment will be at Sunset Cemetery, Manhattan, Kansas.
