Louise Jane Hoskins of Emporia died on Saturday, May 18, 2024, at the Presbyterian Manor in Emporia. She was 96.
Jane was born on August 5, 1927, in Emporia, Kansas, the daughter of Clair G. and Esther C. (Retschlag) Bowen. She married Lee Hoskins on July 18, 1947 in Emporia, Kansas. Lee passed away on March 9, 2021 in Emporia.
Surviving family members include: daughter, Christie L. (Suta) Supakit, Raymore, Missouri; son, Robert C. (Kay Schneider) Hoskins, Highlands Ranch, Colorado; grandchildren, Katrina Supakit (Richard) Garrard, Alexandra Hoskins (Brian) Wilmot, Connor Hoskins, and Ian Hoskins; and great-grand-daughters Evelyn Rose Hoskins, Amelia Sloane Hoskins-Wilmot; and sister, Ruth Ann Latham.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; grandson, Tristan K. Hoskins; sisters, Carolyn Abrams and Ethel C. Miller; and brothers, Clair and Ray Bowen.
Jane was a mother, wife, partner, confidante and homemaker, living in many different locations as she traveled the world with her family during her husband’s military and foreign service spanning over 29 years. Over the years she accompanied and complemented her husband Lee as they were stationed in Forts Chaffee and Smith, Arkansas; Kitzingen am main, West Germany; Fort Holabird, Baltimore, Maryland; Chicago, Illinois; The Presidio of Monterey, California; Fort Holabird, Baltimore, Maryland (2nd time); Fort Wainwright, Fairbanks, Alaska; Emporia, Kansas (while Lee was in Vietnam); USMLM Berlin/Potsdam, Germany; Manila, Philippines; and Fort Hauchuca, Arizona, where her husband retired from active Army service. She then accompanied and complemented Lee as he went to work for the US Trust Territories as Chief of the Micronesia Bureau of Investigations. After Lee retired for a second time, they returned to Emporia, Kansas. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary for 50 years, joining in 1974. Jane assisted at Newman Regional Hospital as a “Pink Ladies” volunteer, working in the gift shop, café, etc.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Thursday, May 23, 2024 at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at 2:00 P.M. at the Kansas Veterans’ Cemetery at Fort Riley in Manhattan, Kansas.
