Luella Marie Hush

Emporia

Luella Marie Hush of Emporia went home to the Lord on Sunday, August 5, 2018 at the Emporia Presbyterian Manor, Emporia.  She was 82.

Luella was born September 23, 1935 on a farm near Ruweda, Kansas the daughter of William James and Gladys Frances Edwards Wiggins.  She married Robert Kenneth Hush on April 14, 1957 at the First Methodist Church in Madison, Kansas.  He survives.

Surviving family members include: husband, Robert Hush of the home; sons, Ken Hush of Wichita, and Dale Hush of Emporia; daughters, Susan & Tom Corkran of Anchorage, Alaska, and Ruth Ann & Richard Taylor of El Dorado; grandchildren, Rachael Hush Ebbing, Gillian Hush, Chandler, Clarice, and Cierstin Bolen, Lauren and Cole Corkran; great-granddaughter, Sophia Ebbing; sister, Karen & Robert Mack of Conway Springs, Kansas and several nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, sister Cleo Luthi, brothers Frank Leland and Dale William Wiggins, grandson William Thomas Corkran.

Luella attended District 100 a one room school house her first 6 years of school, then went to Madison, Kansas where she graduated from high school.  She attended the College of Emporia and graduated from Newman Memorial County Hospital School of Nursing as a registered Nurse.  Luella loved children and was a Pediatric nurse for many years, first as a supervisor of the department and them working two evenings a week for 21 years, quitting at the hospital when she was 50.  She then was a substitute school nurse for 8 years, and then finished her career as a special needs nurse to a little boy for 4 years.

She was an active member of the First Christian Church for over 50 years having been a Sunday school teacher, group leader, on the diaconate and working the past several years in the church library.  Luella enjoyed all types of sewing, she even made her own wedding gown and both of her daughters.  She liked hand work and for a time taught classes in various hand sewing, and loved quilting.  She was active in cub scouts with her boys being a den mother, and was a registered girl scout for 20 years and was a Council Cookie Chairman.  She was given the Fanestil award and the Thanks award for outstanding service supporting Girl Scouts in the Emporia area.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, August 9, 2018 at the First Christian Church, Emporia.  Private burial will take place at the Memorial Lawn Cemetery.  Luella loved flowers and wanted them all when she was alive.  In lieu of flowers, she requests donations to the Emporia State Division of Nursing Scholarships or the First Christian Church library fund in care of the funeral home.
