Lupe P. Torres, 90, of Emporia, Kansas, died on Tuesday, September 30, 2014 at Newman Regional Health, Emporia.
Lupe was born on December 5, 1923 in Pittsburg, Kansas, the son of Atanasio and Pabla Perez Torres. He married Cecilia Solano on June 22, 1946 at St. Catherine Catholic Church, Emporia. She survives at the home.
Lupe is survived by: sons, Gary (Patty) Torres of Wichita, Kansas, Mike (Cynthia) Torres, Edward Torres, and Rick (Loretta) Torres, all of Emporia; daughters, Carmen Torres of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Teresa (Joe) Salazar of Northbrook, Illinois, Leona (Phillip) Cisneros, Rose (Rick) Oaks, and Mary (Oscar) Hernandez, all of Emporia; brother, Lupe J. Torres of Emporia; sister, Sister Guadalupe Torres of Colorado Springs, Colorado; forty-three grandchildren; eighty-six great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Cecilia Torres-Granado; sisters, Ruth Luna, Sofia Rodriguez, and Reyes Rodriguez; brother, Greg Torres; one grandson, and one great-grandson.
Lupe was with the Santa Fe Railroad for 43 years as a foreman in the track maintenance department. He served in the United States Air Force from 1943 to 1946, and served in the China Burma India Theater, and was a member of the CBI. Lupe was a member of St. Catherine Catholic Church, and Ball-McColm Post #5 American Legion, Emporia.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 A.M., Friday, October 3, 2014 at St. Catherine Catholic Church, Emporia. Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, with military honors by Ball-McColm Post #5, American Legion and Lowry Funston Post #1980, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Emporia.
The Rosary will be recited Thursday evening, October 2, 2014 at 7:00 P.M. at the church.
