M. Robert Aman (73) of Emporia died Sunday, August 13, 2017 at his home. Cremation is planned.
The mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 A.M. Thursday, August 17, 2017 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Fr. Brandon Farrar of the church will be the celebrant. The Rosary will be recited at 6:00 P.M. Wednesday, August 16, 2017 at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home. A family visitation will follow the rosary. In lieu of flowers, donations to either ESU Teacher’s College for the Special Education Scholarship (for Special Education Majors), Hand In Hand Hospice or Hetlinger Developmental Center may be sent in care of Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral home.
M. Robert Aman the son of Francis W. and Ruth Schweikart Aman was born August 11, 1944 in Rochester, NY. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in June of 1967 from the College of Emporia and his Master’s Degree from K.S.T.C (E.S.U.) He married Alice Tucker on September 10, 1966 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Emporia. She survives of the home.
Other surviving members of the family include, a son Michael Aman of Lawrence and a daughter, Keli Aman of Houston, TX. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Ruth Aman and a brother, Frank Aman.
Bob taught Middle School Music in Rochester, New York for five years, the Director at Hetlinger Developmental Center for ten years, and 32 years at Emporia High School as a behavior disorder and severely mentally handicapped teacher. From 2007 to 2008 he was a faculty advisor for the Psychology Undergraduate Student Advisement Center, and a Graduate Advisor for Psychology, Special Education, and Adaptive programs at E.S.U. From 2007 to 2011 he was a grant Coordinator for Elementary Education, Early Childhood and Adaptive programs at E.S.U. From 2006 to 2008 he was an online instructor for Elementary Education, Early Childhood Education, Special Education, and adaptive programs for the web based E.S.U. graduate courses related to the areas of Adaptive Special Education. From 2009 until the present he was a Faculty member of the Kansas Future Teachers Academy and from 2012 to 2014 he was the Director. From 2012 to 2013 he was the faculty advisor for the Psychology Undergraduate Student Advisement Center. From 2008 to 2013 He was an instructor in Elementary Education, Early Childhood Education, and Special Education at E.S.U. From 2014 to 2015 he taught Psychology majors required course “Abnormal Psychology” and was a Lecturer in the department of School Leadership, Middle and Secondary Teacher Education. Teaching “Educational Psychology”. In the fall of 2013, he was an Adjunct to the Department of Psychology at E.S.U. and from 2013 to 2016 he was a lecturer to Elementary Education, Early Childhood Education, Special Education, Adaptive and School Leadership, and Secondary Education at E.S.U. teaching pre-teacher education undergraduate Courses, “Survey of Exceptional Children” and “Educational Psychology”.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, and a member of the NEA, KNEA, KSHSSA a member and director of the TRI VEL Raiders, a drum and bugle corps, an Emporia High Drill Team Instructor for the flag squad and the dance team. He also was an instructor for the Kansas Lions Band. He also was an official for high school volleyball, softball, and basketball teams, and was a referee for Jr. College and College volleyball matches. In 2013 he was awarded the Kansas Softball Umpire of the Year.
