Mabel Ann Shown, 79, of Emporia, Kansas, and Alamo, Texas, died Monday June 29, 2015 at McAllen, Texas.
Mabel was born January 14, 1936 in Reading, Kansas, the daughter of James and Etta Helen (Volz) Steen. Her mother died when she was a young girl and she was raised by her father and stepmother, Mildred (Pirtle). Mabel worked all of her career in the insurance field. The last 18 years with Marsh McLennan Insurance Company in Topeka, Kansas. She retired at the age of 52, moving to Emporia. She was a member of the Oakland Presbyterian Church in Topeka, Quilters Guild and the Red Hat Society.
Mabel married Clayton Eugene Shown on May 27, 1954. He survives of the home. Other survivors include: son, Terry Shown of Americus, Kansas; daughter, Sandy Shown Spencer and husband Eddie of Topeka; sister, Lois Jones of Madison, Wisconsin; grandchildren, Nathan Shown, Lisa Parkhurst, Tatum Spencer, and Anastyn Spencer; and great-granddaughter, Tristan Shown.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Monday, July 6, 2015 at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, Emporia. Interment will follow in Memorial Lawn Cemetery, Emporia. Pastor Ron Phelps of Emporia Presbyterian Church will be officiating.
