Magdalene (Sally, Sis) Andrade of Emporia died on Saturday, January 13, 2024, at Newman Regional Health in Emporia.  She was 87.

Sally was born on August 29, 1936, in Ottawa, Kansas, the daughter of Clarence and Janie Harkins Kirkland.  She married Joseph G. Andrade on July 14, 1956, in Fairway, Kansas.  He died on December 6, 2019, in Emporia.

Surviving family members include: son, Joseph A. Andrade (Carrie) of Manhattan; daughters, Karen Madrigal (John) of Emporia, Jane Thurman (Daniel) of Leeton, Missouri, and Tina Andrade of Emporia; grandchildren, Paula Vosburg (Kent), Kendra Richardson, Robert J. Andrade, Anthony Wade (TJ) Andrade, Megan Schulze, Carrie Elizabeth Andrade, Alexandra R. Andrade, Chance J. Andrade, Dirk W. Andrade, Emily Hedglin (William), and Jane Richardson Whealan (Jason); great-grandchildren, Nathan Vosburg, Olivia Vosburg, Marquise Richardson, LaKeisha Burnett, Jamaul Burnett, Aliaize Richardson, Drake Ogborne, Ezabella Andrade, Addison Whealan, Theresa Ann Whealan, and Zephyr Hedglin; brother, James D. Kirkland of Rolling Green, Kentucky; sisters, Karen Green of Wellsville and Cherry Williams of Eudora.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, great-grandson Markell Richardson, brother Buddy Kirkland and sisters Nancy Thuro, and Betty Kluender.

Sally was a cashier and a Para Educator at Somerset Elementary School in Prairie Village, Kansas for 39 years.  She was a member of Queen of the Holy Rosary Church in Overland Park, Kansas.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, January 20, 2024, at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church with burial following at the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Emporia.  The rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m., Friday, January 19, 2024, at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home with the visitation following.  Memorial contribution to the American Cancer Association can be sent in care of Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, P.O. Box 175, Emporia, Kansas 66801.
