Margaret "Marge" Elizabeth Sellers

Margaret “Marge” Elizabeth Sellers, 94 of Emporia, Kansas died Tuesday, October 3, 2017 at the Holiday Resort Care Center in Emporia.
Marge was born January 31, 1923 in Hope, North Carolina the daughter of James Arthur and Esther Mae (Haywood) Cooke. She moved to Wichita, Kansas at the start of WWII to work in one of the defense plants. While there she met her future husband, William “Bill” Edward Sellers. They were married in Ocala, Florida on May 13, 1944. After the war, Marge and Bill returned to Emporia, Kansas and opened Sellers Jewelry store. Marge worked alongside Bill at the store until they retired in 1986. Marge enjoyed being a “Winter Texan” for many years after they closed the store. Marge was a member of the St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, was active in Beta Sigma Phi and was “Heart Queen” one year, she was a member of the Women’s City Club and during her term as president her group project was to erect the automated sign for the front of the Civic Auditorium. Marge was an active member of the Miriam Chapter #14, Eastern Star, Social Order of Beauceant, past president of the American Veteran’s Auxiliary, past president of the Universal Commercial Travelers, served on the St. Mark’s Lutheran Church Council and in 1960 was involved in the development of Hetlinger Developmental Services. She was always someone to keep busy with a variety of projects including crafts, beading, ceramics, crochet and sewing.

Marge is survived by her husband Bill, a son Ron Sellers and wife Becky of Emporia, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Colon Cooke, Junior Cooke, Bob Cooke, Harvey Cooke, sisters Mabel Dunn, Lucille Bruton, Mittie White, and Mary Ann Binkley.

Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Monday October 9, 2017 at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home. Pastor Dinah Dutta of the St. Mark’s Lutheran Church and Pastor James Scott of the Cornerstone Baptist Church will be officiating. The family will receive friends from 3:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. Sunday October 8, 2017 at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Masonic Circle at Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Emporia.
