Margaret "Peggy" Mary Palmer

February 11, 1936 — October 30, 2014

Margaret Mary “Peggy” Palmer, 78, of rural Reading, Kansas, died Thursday, October 30, 2014 at her home. Cremation is planned with no services at this time. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Margaret Palmer Memorial Fund in care of the funeral home.

Known to some as Peggy and to most as just “Grandma,” Margaret had an extraordinary life. It’s truly difficult to list everything she’s done and impossible to list all the lives she’s touched, but those who were lucky enough to know her will miss her unimaginably. She has always gone above and beyond, not only to make sure everyone around her is happy, but also to ensure they know how much they are loved and how important they are as a person.

Margaret was married young, though that did not stop her from pursuing her educational dreams. After graduating high school, she went on to college and graduated with honors, receiving her Bachelor’s Degree in Business.

She eventually became Director of Social Services and worked in several nursing homes around Emporia trying her best to improve the lives of the residents. Although her career was important to her, she was never too focused on school or work to forget about the important things in life. She did everything from coaching a special Olympics team, to running a deli/pizzeria, to taking in abused women, children, and dogs and finding them a safe home. Through everything however, she managed to never take life too seriously; her most favorite things will always be dogs, donuts, and coffee.

She is survived by four children, Carol, who was her primary caregiver, Jimmy, David, and Janet. She also had five grandchildren, Kelsey, who was also her caregiver, Caitlin, Stacey, Jeremy, and Heather, and three great-grandchildren, Erick, Daniel, and Sabastian.

Her unconditional love was felt by each and every family member and her strong family values and morals will never be forgotten. She was, and will always be, the most important person in the world to her family. She had such an impact on her loved ones that no joyous occasion will be felt without just a little sorrow, as she will not be there for it. We can all only hope to live our lives as beautifully as she did; to help and love unconditionally and without judgment.
